About
And a fanlisting is a .....?
The long and the short of it: a listing of fans by fans for fans. The point of these babies is for fans of whatever it may be...an anime, a character, a hobby, a movie, etc ...to fuse together in a happy little place where others like you dig the same thing. Slick, ne? This site among so many other fanlistings can be found at The Anime Fanlisting Network.
Hazel who?
*possible spoilers, you are warned blah blah blah*
Hazel appears in the "Saiyuki Reload" manga, (#4 to be precise) but makes his animated appearance in "Saiyuki Reload Gunlock, starting on episode 13.
Hazel is from the far west, popping along with a mission of his own. His clothes and his delightful Kyoto accent are evidence of his foreigner status.
The lowdown:
As a boy, Hazel was mentored by his beloved master, who was a bishop. (gee, this all sounds so familiar)
Hazel lost his fatherly mentor to youkai in a similar fashion not unlike a certain young Kouryuu losing a certain Koumyou Sanzo. Because of his Master's determined yet failed attempt at insisting that all youkai could coexist with humans, Hazel commenced a burning hatred for their kind after his Master's death. He then discovered he possessed power after such hatred drove deeper into his heart. This power was of one that could seep the souls of deceased youkai and fling them in his shiny shiny amulet. But what to do with all those souls? Well, implant them into dead humans to reanimate them, of course! Oh, and one stipulation: These reborn "shikagami" now share Hazel's hatred for youkai and will attack any pointy eared villain they see.
Hmm. Seems Hazel has this all figured out. A very Inquisition-style of eradicating the world of youkai to make a paradise for humans. Seems to make sense to our dear little bishop.
Hazel cannot understand why Sanzo, a fellow cleric with a similar past, does not harbor the same ill will toward youkai. This simply baffles him. And understandably, the rest of the Sanzo-tachi does not share Hazel's enthusiasm for wiping the world clean of youkai.
Hazel, being a slight, seemingly proper little smeet of a bishop needs a bit o' brawn to back him up. That "brute squad" comes in the form of his hulking sidekick shikigami, Gato, who swings a mean gun and is a hell of a shot. An attack on Hazel is an attack on Gato. Hazel was pretty cunning in employing him as a bodyguard.
With viewpoints of this moral immensity, it seems very natural for Hazel and Sanzo-tachi to square off against each other verbally and physically.
Right?
The politics of Hazel are not all what they seem and he is not one to give up so easily in getting what he wants. No matter what.
What of this site?
This site was created using Microsoft FrontPage. I am addicted.

A

Kagenami
Q, for the Reload Gunlock Guidebook! Whee!
And to Dafont.com. Because we all needs fonts.
v 3.0. "Blue Eyed Angel" Gotta love Nii's pet name!
Why "Cantata"
Some of us-who have an eccentric taste for letting Hazel run
loose in our minds-feel there are some undeniable attributes about this
dear cleric.
*coughYukieAkemicoughguiltytoocough*
There can be no doubt he
loves classical music. It is all too easy to see him air conducting to
Beethoven's 5th. *squee*
In any case, UberDemon, being of a classical guitar trained variety, thought Hazel would be most pleased with anything by J.S. Bach. Indeed! I concur! Again, being stumped for The NAME, I asked for his advice. (After all, he named Homura's FL-"The Grand Inevitable")
UberDemon: "Well. (seeing as I wanted to pursue a "musical name") Bach......hmm....Cantata. Yea. You *know* Hazel would dig those!"
Ah. I could not agree more.
For those who don't know a C major from C cup, a cantata is a musical composition employing sacred text, comprising recitatives, arias, and choruses. It's big and flashy. Hazel would certainly dig it.
But still....why Hazel?
The moment I caught a glimpse of Hazel, I knew I would dig him. A split second later, Sabrina tackled me to the floor screaming "I saw him first!" Oh I certainly did not want exclusive dibs on him, that is just silly. Thus this fanlisting!
Sanzo can have dibs on him.
*gunshot*
Well, ok. Hazel's beeeg bluuue eyes had something to do with it too....
However, I also feel compelled to run FLs on those Saiyuki charas who tend to be a "annoying thorn" in the paws of the Sanzo-tachi. (Homura, Kami-sama...). It was a natural progression. I also cannot help the fact I love these so-called "petty annoyances" muchly!
